Training in Schools

How much does this cost?

For Staff and student training half a day duration is advised.

Parent presentations tend to be in the evening, in which case a two-hour session with breaks would be suggested.

The cost is £450 per half day + travel expenses & £250 + travel expenses for parent presentations

This includes:

  • Preparation meetings to ascertain specific requirements

  • No upper limit on the amount of attendees

  • Comprehensive post workshop information to get attendees up and running quickly.

  • Post training videos to remind / show attendees how to enable functionality for specific types of device.

If is more cost effective to train Learning Support staff using my affordable consultancy service as required.

If school diaries cannot accommodate this, shorter courses can be run.

I do not discount for shorter workshops as they require more preparation time

Students

We offer two services directly to students

  1. Dyslexia friendly effective revision technology & techniques

This workshop raises students expectations of what they can achieve and it equips them with the tools to help them do so.

A number of techniques and technologies are introduced that would benefit any student but are particularly helpful for those with SpLD.

One full day session or weekly lesson for 1/2 a term.

  2. Touch Typing Courses

Being able to touch type with speed and accuracy is a valuable life skill. For students with SpLD it can significantly improve grades.

It enables anyone to write much quicker and more legibly, plus it opens the possibility of using helpful technologies that enhance the quality of written work.

It has the potential to reduce school expenditure and simplify logistics, as it can lessen the number of human scribes required during formal exams.

I work with individual schools to ascertain the best way of ensuring their students learn this vital skill.

  • Advise staff how to set up effective typing clubs at school through our consultancy service.

  • Deliver the training directly to students on your school premises either via

    • Weekly lessons for a term

    • Intensive course, ideally at the end of the academic year (after exams) or whenever there is a suitable gap in the school timetables

  • Publicisse my public remote typing courses in school. These are normally scheduled at the beginning of school holidays so students can practise when they have a reduced workload.

Parental buy in and support are essential for success
when teaching touch typing

It is essential that parents are made aware of the benefits to students of being able to type proficiently and of the practice required at home to acquire this skill before they enroll students on the course. This topic is covered in our Parent Workshops.

Parent Workshops

Parents have a vested interest in the academic success of their children. They can be highly motivated but lack the skills to support learning.

A vast range of technology and helpful techniques are introduced to equip parents to better support learning at home. Enabling schools to take advantage of this often underutilised resource.

Teaching staff are also encouraged to attend as it makes them more aware of common problems students have completing homework. It also encourages a healthy, productive collaboration between home and school.

Learning Support Departments

In depth training is given to Learning Support Departments to enable them to adequately support staff, students and parents.

Caroline has advised our school on appropriate technology to use with boys who have a range of SEN within our school. She has been invaluable in researching and setting up appropriate programmes that we can use within the school. She has provided a ‘hands on’ approach in working within the school and in training the support staff in the use of specific programmes. Caroline has also liaised closely with parents in providing information and encouragement to persevere. She is keen and highly motivated, with a passion for encouraging students to use IT to support their learning needs.
