Tech to Aid Understanding

Traditional teaching methods do not work for everyone.

Taking notes whilst being taught and reading textbooks does not play to the strengths of students with dyslexia or other learning differences.

When restricted to learning this way, bright students often underachieve.

How can technology help students that learn differently?

Help to take better notes

Class notes are often incorrect, incomplete and inadequate as a basis for homework or revision.

This video explains why some students struggle to take notes in class and explores strategies and technologies that could help.

RNIB Bookshare

Electronic textbooks are a helpful resource to improve student understanding. Learn more about how to use RNIB Bookshare on an iPad, watch this video.

When students have not understood what was taught in class, one option is to use online learning resources.

Online Learning Resources

When a student’s notes are not sufficient to complete homework or revise for exams, there are a few options to help fill the gaps. Increasingly amazing learning resources are available online.

Finding resources that teach the way a student learns, improves confidence and this is key to enabling a student to reach their potential.

This eBook shows some of my favourite online resources but many, many more are available, and more are being created all the time.
These resources alleviate the need for students to:

  • Take comprehensive notes in class

  • Read and remember lengthy academic textbooks

Many of the resources included are free!!

My-GCSEScience.com

One resource that many students have found very helpful is My-GCSEScience.com. Ideally, a school would buy a subscription as they offer great deals for large number of students, but it is still very affordable when bought by a family.

To give you a better idea of what is provided here are two quick videos.

The resources listed, whilst potentially transformational, do not guarantee academic success. How these they are used is important.
