NEVER look at your fingers.  This makes it harder at first but means you will learn to touch type MUCH faster.
Always use the keyboard provided when practising typing or doing a timed test.

Typing Speed Test

To monitor a students progress we use a one minute timed test.

The timed tests on Typing.com while good are hard when you start typing, as they include capital letters and punctuation. This is an easier timed test to start with.

Tip:  Use the laminated finger position strip when doing tests.  Some students find it helpful to use bluetack to stick this to the screen.

Do test yourself.  That way you can see how much you have improved.

To be able to keep track of your progress for the after school club you will eventually need to be able to take the test on Typing.com.

Prizes

To begin with we reward the student that has done the most practise in the week.
As students improve we reward the student whose Words Per Minute (WPM) and Accuracy % has improved the most.

Typing Games

While typing games are fun they are not sufficient to learn how to touch type.

They should be used as a reward for practising.  Always try to beat you previous highest score.
