Revision - Dealing with distractions

One of the reasons revision can be totally ineffective is because students are not giving it their full attention. The thought of not having their phone with them is abhorrent to the younger generation but constantly checking their phone slows down, hinders and prolongs the revision process.

Various apps and solutions exist to stop us being disturbed.

1.4.1   Microsoft - Focus assist

Focus Assist is Windows 10's Do Not Disturb mode. When enabled, it will automatically hide incoming notifications, so they don't pop up and distract

1.4.2   Mac – SelfControl

Self-control is a free open source application for Mac OS. It allows users to block their own access to distracting websites, mail servers or anything else on the Internet. Users set a period of time to block for, add sites to blacklist, and click start. Until that time expires, they will be unable to access those sites even if they restart the computer or delete the application.
